As a creative person, I tend to dislike spreadsheets. They're boring, they're complicated, and they're ugly. They're the cargo pants of the software world - lots of pockets and technically useful, but few people are ever excited to look at them.
But as a business guy, oh man, spreadsheets are life. When used properly, they enable a creative business to become profitable, less stressful, and sustainable.
When I start a business coaching relationship with a creator who is stressed out, overwhelmed, and feels like they're grinding from one month to the next, 100% of them measure very few things in their business. They don't know what makes their business tick or what lever to pull in order to have the biggest impact on growth. They usually know their top-line revenue, but don't even know if they're profitable or not. That's a crazy-stressful and unpredictable way to run a business.
It's impossible to grow your creator business without clear targets that move you towards your dream outcomes.
Just as YouTube provides data to help you analyze your video performance and make strategic choices on how to grow, you need something similar for your business. Thankfully, a few simple business metrics and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) can provide a mountain of insight. It doesn't have to be complicated.

WARNING: If this is your first time to use KPIs, please do not dive in to all of them at once. There's likely a few that are most critical to your goals for this year. Pick two to five of the the KPIs that make the most sense for tracking your progress towards that goal. Or, write a few of your own KPIs following the format I provide in the template.
