Our family of six requires a lot of discernment in where we spend our time currency. Completely understand your perspective here.

How do you guys approach decisions about where your time goes?

We have a family calendar. Our two oldest have access to the Google calendar, so they know to check it before committing to something. They also know we have to deal with a lot of schedules. Sunday and church takes precedent over a lot of stuff. Another thing we do is simply say no to some things. It's hard, but we have to do it to keep sanity going. That calendar has helped us a ton recently. Forgetting to use the calendar can throw some monkey wrenches though lol. My wife and I have a lot of conversations and include the kids to let them feel seen.

Cool. We do something similar. The struggle I have is knowing what to say no to and what to say yes to when there’s so many good things competing for our time. Having a family mission helped serve as a good filter when the kids were younger, but now it’s a bit harder that kids are doing individual things more that are outside the scope of the family. I think we may need to refine the family mission first this next season of life.

I have a 17 year old and he has had to choose at times. We understand if schedules conflict and sometimes we have to separate. The no’s are hard I agree.
